I am Chad Vice, co-owner and operator of Championship Vinyl, an online record store. Lots of people are somebodies, and millions more are considered "nobodies". I want to bring you the stories of people of everyday and any day, because even if you think you are a nobody, you are always a somebody. The people I talk to are not famous, but they are all interesting characters. Every week, a new story, a new guest, a new friend. The Nobodies Are Somebodies podcast - listen for fun, hear for life!

Real People With Real Stories

Thank you for listening to my podcast

Jul 2, 2018

This week on the podcast I not only pull out all the stops, I pull out all the people in my life. If you know me or know people who know me, you could wind up finding yourself asked to be a guest on the podcast, and you know what the right answer is! This week's guest, I go everywhere to find someone new for you, and this week it's my own Insolvency Trustee Shannon D.

Don't know what that title means? Then this podcast episode is a must hear & now. Shannon was very nice to allow me to fumble through questions and try to understand exactly what her work entails, but one thing for sure is how she is able to help people through one of the most stressful and difficult times in life that people go through. Money and debt worries. Find out how the basic process works and see the links below for more information on Hoyes, Michalos and Associates Inc. I urge others to seek out trustees in their local areas to help you help yourself!

Bernie Taylor. Is he an author, a teacher, a scientist? When you ask him, he'll tell you that he sees himself as a naturalist

Bernie is my guest this week, and he is the author of the books Before Orion Finding The Face of the Hero and Biological Time. We discuss both books, the origins of why he wrote them, and their content. We dig deeper into his Before Orion book, based upon exploring the hero’s journey of self-awareness, mythology and record of biological knowledge through Paleolithic cave art as well as where he became interested in the subject and how it became his life's work.

We talk about Paleolithic images made over 34,000 years ago and how 'nobodies' might have made these original drawings but we will never know who they were, but they have done something that people still discuss and research today. Nobodies became Somebodies, even thousands of years ago!

We also talk a little bit of the history and Bernie's interest in Pablo Picasso and his works.

In this Part II with Andy Barker, we get the full story on Andy's father's medical emergency, right down to what exactly was happening with him, how close he was to death and how he was able to make a recovery thanks in much part to a strong connection with his son and family. We also talk about the final process of retiring from the Navy as well as get into his experiences with PTSD and what his KB1 Foundation is all about. It's a little bit serious but with no shortage of fun.

Due to some technical glitches during the initial recording, this episode is made of take number 2 of one loooooong conversation with Andy but a very good one. Proud of his openness and honesty, and happy for having him on the show. More about Andy below, in case you forgot!

Andy Barker is coming up on a nearly 30 year career in the U.S. Navy and is trained as an Emergency Room Registered Nurse. He has seen, done and heard about more things than many people could think of. He's been stationed in Japan, he was on the USNS Mercy during the first Gulf War, Global War on Terror and Operation Enduring Freedom Philippines, and there he's responsible for a large team that report directly to him, and he will go to bat for anyone on his team.

Andy Barker is a family man who has and always will be there for his family. He has been by his father's side during illness and seen him making a recovery, up to the point of just before we recorded this podcast episode. He is based in Virginia but we spoke while he was in St. Louis with his parents after his father returned home from hospital.

Andy Barker is a fellow podcaster, and you can find links to his shows below here in the show notes. I still say after our chats, I think I taught him a thing or two about podcasting (what 'not' to do, ahem cough cough).

Andy Barker has a strong opinion and is proud of his work in the Navy. You will hear some strong opinions in this episode. Both he and I would welcome your feedback on anything discussed in this off the hook Part I of one more to come podcast with...Andy Barker!

Penelope is many things. Model. Singer/Songwriter. Actress. What is she most proud of being? A Cancer Warrior. She is not a survivor, a term she despises, but a true WARRIOR in every sense. She tells me all about this and much more in her second part episode.

We also get treated to another live on the spot performance of a song she wrote when she was living in London in and around 1968, her original tune 'How Can I Tell You'; she talks about the song and what her inspiration for it was. We talk about her future music plans, but mums the word on her future acting roles coming up. Maybe one day when the films are out?

My thanks to Penelope and her loving husband Kent for letting me into their home, their sanctuary from the busy life she still leads and there seems to be no stop to her! When you are a creative person by nature, how can you turn it off and why should you? Here is more Penelope G.

Tell a friend (and enemy) because Fred is back, back again! It's just me and my good buddy Fred talking about nothing this week and at the same time, everything, like what he's been up to, what's on his mind, and what kind of special coffee Keurig machine he'd love to have in his house (ha!). We also touch on the Laurel vs. Yanny fad but not for long, because this has long been played out now. Get ready for no-serious pro-nonsense episode with me and homie Fred C.

This interview with my friend Shawn was recorded over Skype, yet we both live in the same city. Imagine that! Schedules be damned, we made it work with no a second to spare before post time. I really appreciate for taking the time to do this and what was maybe going to become a 15-20 min chat turned in to an 1 hour 30 minute assault on your eardrums with everything from early childhood memories, to video gaming, to online video gaming etiquette, to the right way to market a new game, to the real way games are marketed, to a mutually enjoyed band and a first concert meet and great with said band. Also, the Children's Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) is very close to his heart - hear what he would do for them and for the kids in his own special way if he had the money we dream about. This is Shawn Hannah!

Aaron Smith returns to the podcast and has a revelation about himself that he recently discovered and is willing to share on the show. We also discuss how his life is changing since we last talked, all for the better, and I'm proud he was so open and honest. We also discuss his new video server project and his new living arrangements. He and I also touched on the history of the first ever car crash. How do we get on these subjects? Aaron also suggests another guest for the podcast. How cool is that??

Shawna Robinson has traveled pretty much all over the world and in the time has gotten some experiences and memories that many of us can only dream about! But what she found out about herself that only a local journey can share gave her more awareness than any other place or country she could visit. First we learned about her travel, and now we learn about the young woman that is Shawna, what she deals with on a daily basis, and how she had to fight to get answers and is still working on that today. The final installment of April Awareness Month is all about medical diagnosis and not accepting "I don't know" as an answer

Apr 23, 2018

Continuing April Awareness Month, here is my interview with proud mother and Autism Advocate Danna Schaubel conducted at a fine establishment, the Fox & Feather Pub and Grill in downtown Ottawa, Ontario Canada.

Danna is the mother of a beautiful 7 year old, Melanie, who is on the autism spectrum. I talked to Danna about coming to Ottawa for the yearly Autism On the Hill that takes place every April on Parliament Hill and what her goals were this year. We discuss her thoughts on current government funding for autism programs (or lack thereof), and what others can do to help raise awareness and make changes, whether they are or have children on the spectrum or not. I was very proud to have her on the show and hear her story. I hope you enjoy it like I did and get a little insight into her world and her daily life. Below are some links she mentions in the show. Thanks for listening!

On this week's episode of the Nobodies Are Somebodies podcast, it's focused on continuing April awareness month, and this week it's a tribute to National Volunteer Week, with my unpaid agent Denise Hawken who runs a Volunteer Program at her paid job, and she talks about what happens during this full 7 days of recognition for her volunteers, and what Volunteer Week really means to her and the staff she manages

I was Live on location at Mavericks in Ottawa Ontario Canada, for the premiere launch party of Jason Lacombe's LoneWolf Productions event, where he had several DJs on scene for a dance party to celebrate the launch of his new venture. I was proud to be on hand along with my unpaid agent Denise Hawken to record some video, get some pics of the event and the man himself, and even an exclusive spin from "DJ White Rabbit" at his home before the event, which he prepared exclusively for this podcast episode. I was even lucky to score a quick bonus interview with David, who originally was a part of the LoneWolf company but bowed out in its in infant stages. Find out some of his story here.

For photos and video of the event and pre-party, check out the Instagram page @sebcamco for all the exclusive content. My thanks to Jason and his whole crew for letting the Nobodies Are Somebodies podcast be a part of this event!

Proud husband, father, entrepreneur and led by his faith and the gift of helping others and mastering the art of bringing folks together, Sean McCoy is a proud Texas native from Houston, and he is my first guest from outside of my little bubble here in Ontario, Canada. I could have talked to Sean for many more than the 1.5 hours that we did and he's got lots of great stories, great experiences and great moments in life that have all happened to him just because he made the choice to start something and see it through to the end. A good example for yours truly! But we only got a fraction of his story and journey here.

Also, did anyone else out there know that Beyonce was from Houston?

Sean is the host of his own podcast, The Come To The Table podcast and you can find all about his show and his guests here:

This episode is a tribute to my mother, Lianne Mommy Vice who passed away this past Wednesday March 14th 2018. I was proud to have her do 3 podcast episodes with me and got to learn more about her along the way. I'll play a few clips of her from some of the episodes and just talk about Mom. Thank you all for listening, and thank you Mom for raising me how you did and of course, falettin' me be mice elf! :)

I love you Mom and I feel you watching over me!!

Eric V. of @OpenTPodcast actually listened to one of my podcast episodes, I can't believe it! Well maybe he heard I was discussing the news and he, being active in his community and interested in the goings on around the world, thought I might have something important to say. That was false, but he did hear a few things come up about the city we live in, the city of Ottawa, Canada, and specifically the area he dwells in...the dreaded downtown core. Right now, there is a big battle going on between the homeless shelters and the downtown business over who belongs where, and both have valid points. Eric asked for this time to speak and comment on his recent conversation and podcast episode with Rideau/Vanier counselor Mathieu Fleury and was even kind enough to pass on a question, or more like a question/statement I had about the condition of our city streets.

You don't have to know Ottawa or even like it to enjoy this episode, I mean, no matter what, it's good conversation on a Monday evening, right? And I enjoy giving my guests a platform to speak, and invite all to do so and all of you awesome listeners to do the same!

Want to hear Eric's episode on Open Topic Podcast with Counselor Fleury? Check out http://www.podcastshow.ca for more details. Thank you also to Eric for providing me a short clip of his show for promotional use on the Nobodies Are Somebodies podcast

The news of the world is usually dark, bleak, appalling, and downright true. This episode appears to be no different, where my sometimes co-host good buddy Fred and I discuss some things we found in the news online recently that caught our attention, and we just had to discuss them in a very frank and maybe uncouth way. But its real, raw, and meant to be a bit light hearted. Actually, some of it is not even news: just personal experiences and storytelling.

Since our 'News of the World' episodes seem to be a bit well received, here is a 3rd, maybe final installment, unless you the great people who listen, say otherwise!

This episode features the song 'Spirit, Is This Your Angel' by Matthew Johnston. Some notes from the artist about the song:

Spirit is this your Angel however, it is so simple that even though I recorded it in the dark, I could remember it. It's one of the first songs I wrote that made it on the album, one of the beginning ones. The first recording I did of it was improvised

Aaron Smith is loud, proud and boisterous and gets his point across. And I would not have it any other way! I've been trying to track him down for a few months now and I'm proud to finally bring you this interview. I visit his six person home, where we talk about all the trips he's taken to exciting places around that meant absolutely nothing to him (he's not a fan of travelling), we talk about his career in the security field and how it finally led him to working in a place that he feels comfortable in, we talk about how he doesn't want to talk politics, and we discuss his earliest (or best) childhood memory. Aaron is honest and forthcoming and he tells it like it is, was, and ever will be. It's the life of Aaron Smith; if you don't have a seatbelt in your home, now is the time to get one, because you'll be needing to fasten it!

We also have music from Matthew Johnston and I go on a rant about "Timmies" Tim Horton's, just for you Richard Mystery!

Meet Penelope Goranson, singer/songwriter/actress/model and breast cancer warrior. We touch on many different topics and all are ones that I want to explore more of, but we were short on time as her and her husband Kent (big thank you to him for letting me record in his telescope shop) were heading to another appointment, but still I'm so grateful for the time that I got, and she also played live for me, right then and there, her original song 'Stargazing' written as a gift to her husband, which you'll hear right here on this episode. We also talk about how she went to live with her aunt in Scotland when she was 17, how she started a challenging modeling career, and how she met Paul McCartney?! And of course, some other stuff.

I also feature in the show some more music from the awesome Matthew Johnston and as well, Chad Vice visits the Apple Store. What a trip!

Bullying is described as: a person who uses strength or power to harm or intimidate those who are weaker.

synonyms: persecutor, oppressor, tyrant, tormentor, intimidator

When we think of bullies we think back to our high school years, and even though it was horrible when we went through it and we felt alone, and at the time, it was the only thing that consumed our minds. We would now probably look back on it as just part of growing up and it made us who we are today. But what was happening to us was not right then and it's still not right now. In this day and age it seems like the levels of violence and personal humiliation that some will go to has been taken to another level, like cyber bullying and things like that. Attacks are more personal and more random than ever. I spoke with a young man, 14 years old, who was recently the victim of a serious physical attack at the hands of another youth whom he didn't even know, and all over a new haircut? Now he wants to speak out on bullying, and not just about what happened to him but about bullying in general and how he personally advocates to bring a stop to bullying in his school and in his community.

You can't have a show, you don't have a big guest. You don't have ANY guest for this show. How can you just release a "Best Of" episode an expect people to tune in to that? They've heard this content before. It's not like you're on TV and get away that!

These are things that no one has said to me, but thoughts have crossed my mind about ending the Nobodies Are Somebodies podcast after the 1st season after all, because I, Chad Vice, have been struggling to find new folks for the show over the past couple of months. With not being able to secure a big time hoped for guest for my big 50th anniversary show, was this the final straw to push me in to podcaster retirement, as it were?

You'll have to listen to find out!

Jan 22, 2018

Being caught in the middle of things, people and situations, just like this episode, is no fun. But I really had no choice here.

You see, I'm a nice guy and I love helping my friends while also helping myself. So when my friend Eric says he needs a guest for his upcoming podcast episode, I am helping to help, and I can also use this time to test some over the phone/internet recording software for this show. WIN.

The results however show that this was indeed just a test and that in no means should this be considered a planned or well thought out constructed show. The sound drops and fades, the content is loose and unorganized, the jokes aren't funny and the background noise is atrocious (never record in a busy home, silly me!) Nevertheless, because the program I was using was not working as intended, and I could not use it for my planned guest, well you get me setting up Rachel and Eric to talk, and then me butting in to promote myself at any given moment. You're welcome.

Thanks for listening as we cap of the end of Season 1 and looking forward to an even bigger next season to go!

Jan 15, 2018

It's News of The World Time, Part Deux, once again with my co-host for this week, my good buddy Fred! He's joining me at my lovely apartment to discuss some things we heard and saw in the news into the new year, but the main feature that this show winds up being about is my ongoing war with the drive thrus of McDonald's, and one specific store in my local area that gave me the most hellish time ever completing a mobile app order.

A ridiculous waste of time, or a ridiculous premise for a show - YOU DECIDE. Thanks for listening, and if you were expecting a big blockbuster 50th episode, you've come to the wrong place. That episode airs in two weeks. You are welcome.

Jan 8, 2018

Due to the flu and a loss of my precious voice, I am not able to conduct a proper interview for this week's episode. I will prove it however, as I did record some quick intros, outros and an outtake so you can all hear my wonderfully awful vocal chords in action. I mean I have to give the people what they want, right? And by that token, this episode is really all Chad Vice all the time

I've included a re-broadcast of an episode from back in February 2017, episode number 4 entitled "Chad No Guest? Vice". I thought this might be a nice way to show my newer listeners (both of you!) a little taste of where I came from when I was first starting this podcast, as I make my way into Season #2 coming shortly here in 2018. In that episode, I talked about me and why I started a podcast, and fully admitted that I could not score a guest for that week!

So please enjoy, thank you for listening to my show and would love to hear all comments and feedback, it makes my show better and I appreciate engaging with you, the loyal listener.

HeroMario, or also known on his YouTube channel as HeroMarioGaming, if that his is real name, is a 15 year old avid gamer and he joins me on this episode to tell me abut what games he loves, Happy New Year. We discuss how he got into gaming, what his first game was, what he currently plays, and of course what games he's looking forward to in the future. Oh and I also ask him if he's any good at school in real life. Because that stuff matters - stay in school kids! Get a good education
